The Pumpkin Patch is scheduled to open on October 16th and the last day is October 30th.

The price for schools is $7 per child and if accompanied by a parent who wants to ride the hayride with the child that is $2.    For families on weekends and later in the afternoon the cost for the hayride for an adult is $2 and the child gets a hayride and pie size pumpkin for $4.  Larger pumpkins are available and each should be marked with the price.

Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin Patch starts on October 16th at 9 am and closes at 6 pm on October 30th.  We have about 1,200 children signed up so far. We are in need of volunteers to help with the schools during the week and volunteers for the afternoons and weekends for families. We also need tractor drivers for the weekends and late afternoons. This is also an opportunity for those needing service hours to help. We will begin decorating the hall the week of October 8th and the field the weekend of October 13th and 14th. There is a sheet in the back of the church for volunteers to sign up or please feel free to call Lynne at 324-8092 or Erica at 329-2308.

In the past we have put this event on to help raise money to payoff our church debt which we have now done.  The event will now be held to help support whatever the church feels is needed in line of maintenance or to continue with helping the community.  We hope to see all our visitors from the past this year during October.

We have children not only from St. Bernard Parish but also from Orleans, Jefferson, and Plaquemine Parishes attend the Patch every year.  September is a busy time with all the schools calling in to reserve their day and time for the field trip.  When the first of October arrives we begin decorating the hall and the field.  The week before the Patch opens the truck arrives with thousands of pumpkins.  Once you attend the Patch you can easily see that it is a success because of many people working together.

When the schools arrive the students watch a video inside the theater set up in Iverson Hall for about 25-30 minutes.  We have shown a variety of videos over the years such as Charlie Brown’s It’s a Great Pumpkin and Elmo’s Halloween video.

Following the video the children next go on a hay ride for about 10 minutes or so.

Next is the trip to the Pumpkin Patch to select their pumpkin.

Each child is given a bag to carry their pumpkin in along with a coloring book and small pack of colors.  Many of the schools bring a picnic lunch to stay and eat on the church grounds – weather permitting.

This year's Pumpkin Patch will begin the week of October 16th.  Sponsorship letters have been mailed out.  Letters to daycares and schools will be mailed in August.  Remember to call Lynne at 324-8092 early for your reservations.

We had another successful year with lots of volunteers - a few a pictured here.
